SM group turns over 104th school building

Ahead of the start of the school year, SM Prime, in collaboration with SM Foundation, handed over a fully furnished two-story building to the President Manuel Roxas Memorial Integrated School-South located in Roxas City, Western Visayas. This marks the completion of the 104th school building project carried out in accordance with the Department of Education's (DepEd) specifications.

The building comprises four classrooms, each equipped with desks and chairs designed for left-handed students, as well as dedicated restrooms for each classroom. Additionally, there is a specially designed restroom for persons with disabilities (PWDs) located on the ground floor. Other amenities include concave blackboards, electric fans, and energy-efficient LED lighting. In consideration of safety measures, emergency lights have been strategically installed in the stairways for emergency preparedness.

In line with DepEd's commitment to providing access to water for hygiene and sanitation, SM Foundation has also installed a handwashing facility equipped with liquid soap for the benefit of the community.

Furthermore, the SM group has pledged ongoing support for the maintenance and upkeep of the school, demonstrating its continued dedication to education and community development.

Social Good

It was earlier announced by DepEd that roughly 21 million students enrolled this school year 2023-2024. Amidst this, the agency reported that only over 100,000 out of the more than 300,000 school buildings are in good condition.

Believing in the power of education in uplifting communities, SM Foundation has been an active member of DepEd’s Adopt-a-School Program since 2002, turning over more than 100 school buildings to grassroots communities nationwide. The said program intends to address overcrowding in schools and provide an environment conducive for learning.
