#Summer2021: An unexpected escapade

Since 2018, I have never had a summer vacation due to the hectic schedule at work. Not even a dip on a pool or a quick visit to the nearest beach. When 2020 started, I promised myself to visit Anawangin in Zambales or Tambobong Beach in Pangasinan for at least 2 days or an overnight stay. Unfortunately, this pandemic happened and again I missed the summer for 3 consecutive years.

Summer is a big deal for me. It is a sort of tradition, especially I came from Pangasinan a province rich in beautiful beaches, and celebrates “Pistay Dayat” (Sea Festival). Also, summer is when I take a break from my regular and busy life. It is when I reset and revitalize myself.

2021 arrived and the pandemic is still around us. With the risk and travel restrictions due to the community quarantines, I already accepted that I will spend my summer at home while working. I didn’t plan anything, not even going home to Pangasinan.

But a blessing in disguise happened, a friend is looking for properties to acquire outside Metro Manila. We accompanied her and helped her to find lots from Cavite, Batangas, Bataan, and Quezon. By visiting these places, we also got the chance to explore and visit travel destinations that made our summer unexpectedly unforgettable.

Disclaimer: We followed all travel and health protocols during our visit to these places.

CAGBALETE ISLAND – QUEZON PROVINCE

This island is located 30 minutes from the mainland of Mauban, Quezon. It is a small island paradise that offers a white sand beach, crystal clear turquoise water, and a fresh onshore breeze.

It is a private island with a diverse ecosystem having a variety of plants and rich marine life. A paradise that is worth going back especially for nature lovers and adventurers.

Activities: Snorkeling, Island Hopping, Kayaking, Beach Volleyball, Swimming, Picture taking, camping.

Kamay ni Hesus is a reliqious site in Lucban, Quezon. It is a 5 – hectare pilgrimage site that includes Via Dolorosa Grotto, Healing Church, Noah’s Ark, Sea of Galilee, and Holy Family Park. But the main attraction of this destination is the 300 steps climb to the Kamay ni Hesus statue.

Activities: Mass, Praying, Recollection, 300 steps climb

WHITE CORALS BEACH RESORT – BATAAN

Located in the humble town of Morong, Bataan, White Corals Beach Resort is a quick getaway from the metro. It is a resort that offers both fresh and saltwater pools with a beachfront of fine grey sand.

If you are looking for a place to relax near Metro Manila, this beach resort should be on your checklist.

Activities: Snorkeling, Island Hopping,  Beach Volleyball, Swimming, Picture Taking, Banana Boat, and Jetski ride.

MATABUNGKAY BEACH – BATANGAS

Similar to other beaches in Batangas, Matabungkay Beach of Lian, Batangas is commercialized, packed with cottages, and has lots of water activities. It has powdery sand and denim-blue water. I think what makes Matabungkay beach unique from others is its floating cottages.

Activities: Swimming, Picture taking, Banana Boat, Jetski ride, camping.

My summer this year is indeed a surprise, it is indeed unexpected and unforgettable. How about you, do you also have an unexpected summer getaway? Feel free to tell your story in the comment section below!
