Discover the Beauty and Thrills of Canhugas Nature Park in Eastern Samar
Located in Hernani, Eastern Samar, Canhugas Nature Park is considered one of the top tourist destinations in the province due to its beautiful natural scenery, including a sandy beach, rocky cliffs, a cave, and crystal-clear water. The park is situated along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, and the name Canhugas was derived from the local term "hugas," which means "wash" in English because fishermen used the area historically to wash their catch before selling or preparing it.
Today, the park offers a variety of activities for visitors, such as swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and picnicking.
What makes Canhugas unique and popular is its gigantic waves, which reach as high as 20 to 30 feet and crash onto the large rock formations, creating beautiful water bubbles. The big waves crashing onto the rock formation facing the Pacific Ocean provide an Instagram-worthy background for photo opportunities.
INSTAGRAM WORTHY
The entire park has numerous IG-worthy spots, including the rock formations, but visitors need to exercise caution when climbing or holding onto the rocks, as they are sharp enough to cut skin. Visitors can also take photos at the cave or on the shore. Despite the gloomy weather during our visit, the dramatic landscape of the park still provided excellent photo opportunities.
RELAXING and THRILLING
Canhugas provides both a sense of peacefulness and a rush of excitement at the same time. Visitors can explore the rock formations, snorkel, and be amazed by the untouched fish and coral sanctuary or take a dive into the tide pool for a more adventurous experience.
Alternatively, visitors can swim in the natural pool created by the ocean on the shore or have a picnic in the tents that are available for tourists. Canhugas also has friendly and supportive lifeguards who ensure visitors' safety and well-being.
